WHAT IS YOGA?
Yoga is union ~ an experience of the wholeness of being. It is the union of Paratman and jive atman the universal soul and the individual soul as one. Yoga is the science of right living and, as such, is intended to be incorporated in our daily life. It works on all aspects of the person: the physical, vital, mental, emotional, psychic, and spiritual.

The word Yoga means “unity” or “oneness” and is derived from the Sanskrit word Yukt or Yuj which means “to join”. This unity or joining is described in spiritual terms as the union of the individual consciousness with the universal consciousness. Yoga is a means of balancing and harmonizing the body, mind and emotions. This is done through the practice of asanas, pranayama, mudra, bandha, shatkarma, and meditation, and must be achieved before union can take place with the higher reality. Yoga is the practice of a religious discipline for the purpose of achieving union with Brahman.

Yoga is more than just flexibility of the body: it is a profoundly life-changing discipline of the entire being. Yoga {Sanskrit, Pali:} refers to traditional physical and mental disciplines originating in India.

BENEFITS OF YOGA:
Yoga cultivates cardiovascular health, musculo-sketletal strength and flexibility. It positively impacts every system of the body, immune, glandular, circulatory, digestive, reproductive, respiratory, and nervous system. It reduces the negative effects of stress. It supports the body’s ability to sleep, move, digest and heal better.

Yoga provides the means for purification of the mind {chitta-shuddhi} to enable us to gain self-realization through Vedanta {self-knowledge}.

Yoga is one of the most extraordinary spiritual sciences that mankind has ever discovered.
